Annette King

Annette King, President

BEc, FIAA, FAICD 

Annette King joined the Actuaries Institute Council in 2018. She is an experienced actuary, company director, and previously CEO, with over 30 years’ experience in financial services across Asia-Pacific. Prior to becoming a Non-Executive Director, Annette had a successful track record as a CEO, CFO and CMO of significant financial institutions, as well as being a founder/entrepreneur. Annette has served large multinational companies (Swiss Re, AXA, Manulife, Mercer) and fintech companies (AFG, FNZ, Galileo Platforms).

Her focus is on business growth through differentiated client experience, organizational culture and innovation via digital and technology enablement. In addition to responsibilities in Australia and New Zealand, Annette has lived and worked for 14 years in Asia. She serves on the boards of Swiss Re, MLC Superannuation, Australian Finance Group (ASX: AFG), U Ethical Investors, Galileo Platforms and the Actuaries Institute.

She was previously President of the Life Insurance Association of Singapore, served on the Singapore Actuarial Society and the Hong Kong Advisory Committee for the AICD. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and has a Bachelor of Economics from Macquarie University. She is a member of AICD’s APRA Forum and a member of Chief Executive Women. 


Naomi Edwards

Naomi Edwards, Senior Vice President

Naomi is an actuary and a professional company director. Following an executive career with Trowbridge Consulting and then Deloitte, Naomi became involved with the wider actuarial fields, including advising a wide group of environmental organisations. She then embarked on a career as a company director, chairing the listed Australian Ethical Investments and sitting on the boards of funds managers, ASX listed companies and superannuation funds. She is currently Chair of Tasplan Super where she has led the fund through three mergers in the last four years. She joined the Board of the Actuaries Institute from January 2020.


David Whittle

David Whittle, Vice President

David’s current position is Chief Risk Officer, Advice & Insurance at CBA. He has had more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry in a variety of business and actuarial roles. His career has spanned general and life insurance, three different multinational insurers and three consulting firms, encompassing roles in reserving, pricing, underwriting, risk management and general management. David was previously Chief Reserving Actuary for Zurich’s Asia-Pacific general insurance businesses, spanning nine countries, from 2013 until October 2018. Prior to that he was a Partner at KPMG, and before that he headed up Product Management and Pricing at Allianz Australia for five years.


Anthony Asher

With almost 40 years of experience on committees, boards and inquiries (much of it in actuarial professional bodies), Anthony's career has been divided between universities and industry with his most recent role as an Associate Professor in the School of Risk & Actuarial Studies at the UNSW. Anthony has published over 200 papers, presentations and articles and has previously been Chair and Member of numerous Actuaries Institute Committees, Sub-Committees and Task Forces. 


Greg Bird

Greg has held Appointed Actuary, Chief Actuary, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Investment Officer roles and over 15 years of board level experience in the insurance, wealth management and investment industries. Greg is currently the Chief Actuary and Chief Investment Officer for Resolution Life Australasia, and prior to this was AMP Group Chief Actuary.


Iris Lun

Iris Lun is Co-founder and Director of 10Life, an insurtech company based in Hong Kong focussed on bringing transparency to insurance consumers. Iris has 20 years of international experience in the insurance industry across Australasia and Europe. Prior to starting 10Life, Iris held various actuarial and business positions at global consulting and life insurance companies including Prudential, ING Group and Towers Watson, covering areas in pricing, valuation, product development, risk management and strategic business management. Iris is a Fellow of the Actuaries Institute Australia and the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong, and holds a combined Bachelor of Commerce (Actuarial Studies) and Arts (Japanese) degree from the University of Melbourne.


Alan Merten

Alan Merten

Alan is a Financial Services Partner and part of the Actuaries & Consultants group. With a background including corporate general management roles in financial services in various countries, he leads multi-disciplinary teams to help clients improve performance of their businesses. His main area of focus is life insurance and his 30 years’ experience in broader financial services includes leading or consulting on the full value chain from customer and distribution, through to product and operations as well as the financial aspects of running businesses.

Scott Reeves

Scott is the Head of Underwriting at Munich RE Australia, responsible for leading underwriting teams to deliver technical assessment of Property & Casualty reinsurance deals. As a Fellow of the Actuaries Institute, he has extensive experience in actuarial and non-actuarial roles over more than 30 years. This includes broader roles in reinsurance Client Management, business management in the GI sector, and in consulting outside of insurance. Scott has gained valuable cultural experience through working in Australia, pan-Asia, North America, and Europe.


Darren Stevens

Darren is a qualified actuary with over 34 years’ experience in the financial service sector. His first 10 years were involved in actuarial consulting in the Investment, Superannuation and Life Insurance fields with Mercer and Trowbridge Consulting. Darren then moved into the wider field and held a number of executive positions including Product Management, Strategy, Operations and Marketing for Tower Life and ING Australia. He then spent 11 years working in the FinTech Bravura Solutions as Director of Product Management and Strategy running a global team in the successful launch of its wealth management solutions. Most recently Darren held the position of Head of Superannuation for Mercer Australia before joining MLC Australia in January 2020 as Group Executive Platforms responsible for the management, growth and development of investment platforms in Australia. Darren joined the Board of the Actuaries’ Institute in January 2020.


Jia Yi Tan

Jia is a contemporary life insurance actuary with over 10 years of wide-ranging experience across actuarial and non-actuarial roles. She is currently an Executive Manager with Bancassurance, AIA Australia (Secondment) and regularly volunteers. Whilst progressing the corporate jungle, Jia also worked her way up at the Actuaries Institute over the last eight years from being the Chair of the Young Actuaries Program to now a member of the Life Insurance and Wealth Management Practice Committee. Last year, she was also awarded the ‘Spirit of the Volunteering Award' during National Volunteer Week as part of the Actuaries Institute Volunteer of the Year Awards 2020.


Win-Li Toh

Win-Li Toh

Win-Li is an actuary with more than 25 years of consulting experience in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. She joined Taylor Fry in 2002, and is the Appointed Actuary to several Australian and New Zealand insurers, assisting them to meet regulatory requirements and offering strategic advice. She also advises self-insurers and government workers compensation schemes. Win-Li is Chair of the General Insurance Practice Committee, which supports the strategic direction of the Actuaries Institute and promotes the general insurance profession. She also presents educational courses and training for boards and regulators, among others, and is a regular keynote speaker and facilitator on the general insurance landscape.
