45,655 reasons to celebrate

This is the number of days since the birth of the Institute, and this week we have been celebrating this milestone. On Wednesday our colleagues from across the profession came together to celebrate the 125-years that Australian actuaries have been serving the community, government and country with a simple mission in mind – protecting ordinary people from an uncertain future by wresting the truth from the data.

On 19th October 1897, a young actuarial student – William Reginald Day - wrote to all actuary fellows and associates in Sydney with a simple proposal: to create a society in the interests of Actuarial Science.

This week, actuaries from across the profession, came together to commemorate this day and celebrate the 125-years that Australian actuaries have been serving the community, government and country with a simple mission in mind – protecting ordinary people from an uncertain future by wresting the truth from the data.

The event showcased books that dated back over 100 years and most intriguing, a time capsule that was sealed 25 years ago. The unbolting of the time capsule in front of a room of over 100 colleagues created a lot of excitement and laughs. Find out more about the event here.
