Ignatius is a health actuary and partner at Deloitte.  Over more than well over a decade he has helped a variety of clients from Australian health funds to both the Singapore and Australian governments to help drive changes to their respective health insurance system.  Ignatius is a strong believer in the actuarial profession and the role actuaries can bring to policy discussions such as in health.

Maggie Lee

Maggie Lee is a Senior Lecturer in Actuarial Studies at Macquarie University.  As part of her research, Maggie is currently exploring how actuarial and statistical techniques may be used in the Wider Health area for her PhD at the ANU.  She has also advised a variety of clients in health during her time as a health actuary at EY.  Maggie is a member of the Actuaries Institute Health Practice Committee and is particularly interested in how Actuaries can be involved in solving problems for the Australian healthcare industry.

Karl Niemann

Karl Niemann

Karl manages the PHI Actuarial team at APRA. His current focus includes addressing sustainability/affordability risks in the industry, reviewing the capital standards and working with the Appointed Actuaries. Prior to APRA, Karl was in Europe for five years working with a variety of general insurers and prior to this he was at the previous health insurance prudential regulator PHIAC.  

Brendan Pon

Brendan is a senior member of Medibank Actuarial Services team with responsibilities including product pricing and design, business advisory, financial modelling and forecasting. He is a Fellow of the Actuaries Institute with almost 20 year experience across health insurance, life insurance and wealth management.  He’s passionate about connecting analysis and insights to decisions improving the health and wellbeing of all Australians.

Arthur Kong

Arthur is a member of Medibank’s Actuarial Services team focussing on product pricing, analytics and financial modelling with an aim to improve the health of all Australians. As a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (Australia) he has had years of experience covering both Life Insurance and Private Health Insurance industries.

Ruth Chan

Ruth Chan
Medibank 

Ruth is a reserving and capital actuary at Medibank, with a focus on private health insurance claims, risk equalisation and the company’s funding position on private health insurance and other alternative healthcare segments.  Ruth has worked in the private health insurance industry since 2013. Over the time she has been in roles that give her exposure to different perspectives of a health fund’s business, and gets to enjoy the challenges of all the critical changes within the fund and the industry.

Ruth is passionate about collaboration of the health insurance industry and the health system. She has been actively involved in quarterly health insurance analyst forums, and participated in meetings with funds and academics from other health systems.
