Kate is currently a senior manager in the policy development branch of APRA, responsible for all policy matters relating to the general and life insurance industries, including the recent review of the capital framework for insurers. Kate has been working for APRA for over ten years, in roles including internal consulting services, actuarial services, frontline supervision and now policy development.

Pauline Blight-Johnston Pauline Blight-Johnston
Director, Wealth Protection and Mature Products Division, AMP

Pauline leads the team responsible for AMP’s life insurance, disability and income protection products and a range of Ordinary and Superannuation Wealth Management products. During a career spanning more than 20 years of actuarial and financial management experience, Pauline has held a number of senior executive posts in life insurance, both in Australia and overseas.

Gerard Callaghan Gerard Callaghan
Director, Deloitte

Gerard joined Deloitte as a Director in June 2013. Previously based in London, Gerard spent the last 12 years in the Life Insurance and Banking industry in the UK working for large actuarial consultancies and a global investment bank. His main areas of expertise include life insurance capital requirements, designing and implementing board communication and information management strategies, asset liability management and Solvency II implementation (including the ORSA requirements).

Nick Callil Nick Callil
Head of Retirement Income Solutions, Towers Watson Australia

Nick is Head of Retirement Income Solutions for Towers Watson Australia and a senior member of the firm’s Australian Benefits Practice. With more than 25 years consulting experience, Nick is responsible for managing key relationships and developing strategic solutions for several major clients. He specialises in post-retirement, and has led Towers Watson’s research in this area.

Tim Clark Tim Clark

Tim joined the IAG in November 2010 as Chief Actuary, having previously spent 19 years at Swiss Re working in a variety of senior positions in Australia, Switzerland, Hong Kong and the UK.

With over 20 years of international experience as an Actuary and Risk Manager, Tim has led underwriting and pricing teams, operated as Appointed/Approved Actuary in multiple regulatory regimes throughout Asia, and now leads the Group Actuarial and Capital function at IAG.

Scott Collings Scott Collings
Principal, Finity Consulting

Scott is one of the founders and a Principal of Finity Consulting. Following a very brief stint as an electrical engineer, Scott has spent the past 25 years working in the general insurance industry. He manages the Volatility and Capital Management practice at Finity and is the Appointed Actuary for two general insurance companies. A member of the Institute’s General Insurance Practice Committee, Scott has been responsible for a number of Institute submissions to APRA in relation to LAGIC developments as well as co-authoring professional guidance papers on risk margins and LAGIC-related topics.

Len Elikhis Len Elikhis
Manager, Deloitte

Len has been with Deloitte Actuaries and Consultants since 2008 and works primarily within the life insurance and wealth management practices. Len has been actively involved with the firm’s initiatives around LAGIC and risk-based capital.

Katrina Ellis Katrina Ellis
Senior Manager, APRA

Katrina is a Senior Manager at APRA. She joined APRA as the Head of Research in 2008 after a career as an academic. From 2011, she has been the Business Lead for APRA's project implementing the Stronger Super reforms. This has involved leading the policy team who developed the superannuation prudential standards and accompanying prudential practice guides, revised the superannuation data collection, and developed the MySuper authorisation process.

Warrick Gard Warrick Gard

Director, Health and General Insurance, Ernst & Young ABC

Warrick is a Partner in the Financial Services Group of Ernst & Young and is the Director of Health and General Insurance within Ernst & Young ABC. Advising the health insurance industry for over 20 years, he has been the Appointed Actuary to a number of health and general insurance companies and is currently the Appointed Actuary to a health fund and four general insurance companies. Warrick has also been involved in a number of health fund merger and acquisition projects and undertaken a number of consulting engagements for government bodies and enterprises on projects directly impacting private health insurers and the wider health arena.

Shaun Gath Shaun Gath
CEO, PHIAC

Shaun is the Chief Executive Officer of Australia’s independent private health insurance regulator, the Private Health Insurance Administration Council (PHIAC), which oversees the PHI industry and provides advice to the Minister for Health and Ageing on prudential and pricing issues associated with the industry. Prior to his current appointment, Shaun was a partner in a national law firm, where he advised government and private sector clients on issues of public law, regulation and governance. He has also worked as a judge’s associate, a ministerial adviser and as general counsel of the Health Insurance Commission (now Medicare Australia).

Tim Jenkins Tim Jenkins

Tim is a superannuation specialist and former Senior Partner at Mercer. For several years, Tim led the firm’s Asia Pacific Retirement business, with direct responsibility for its actuarial and legal consulting practices. In his prior role as Managing Director of Mercer New Zealand, Tim was responsible for Mercer’s selection as a default KiwiSaver provider. Tim is convener of the Actuaries Institute’s Superannuation Financial Condition Report and Risk Management Taskforce.

Glenn Langton Glenn Langton
Principal, GCL Consulting

Glenn has over 30 years experience in superannuation consulting, asset consulting and management. He has held senior roles within the consulting actuarial divisions of a number of Australian firms including Mercer Human Resource Consulting, Coopers & Lybrand and Buck Consultants. Glenn has also been responsible for the provision of investment services, asset consultants’ support and the development of investment products for ING Investment Management.

Deputy Chair, APRA

Ian was appointed as a Member of APRA in 2010 following an extensive career in the financial services industry. He has held a variety of senior management and board positions in a number of major organisations, both in Australia and overseas. Ian became Deputy Chair of APRA on 1 July 2013.

Jennifer Lang Jennifer Lang
Chief Actuary, NAB Wealth

Jennifer is Chief Actuary at MLC, NAB Wealth, and has many years of experience in the insurance and financial services sector. During 2012, as a Partner at KPMG, she advised a number of insurers on the implementation of ICAAP, and worked with Appointed Actuaries and Boards on how the role of the Appointed Actuary was to change under the new standards.

Director, Deloitte

Ignatius has been with Deloitte for over eight years, with a focus on health insurance. He has helped a number of Australian health funds over the years as well as being an actuarial advisor for Medishield, Singapore’s national health insurance fund.

Cath Mulcare Cath Mulcare
Chief Financial Officer, Defence Health Limited

Cath is the Chief Financial Officer of Defence Health Limited. Cath has worked as a Regulatory Affairs Partner with KPMG, on the Accounting Professional and Ethical Standards Board and represented CPA Australia on the inaugural ASX Corporate Governance Council, while working as Director of Public Policy, Financial Reporting and Governance. Prior to her CFO role at Defence Health, Cath was Chief Financial and Operations Officer of the Melbourne Storm Rugby League Club, where she was responsible for rebuilding trust and restoring confidence after the salary cap scandal of 2010.

Adrian Rees Adrian Rees
General Manager, APRA

Adrian is a General Manager in APRA’s Diversified Institutions Division. Prior to joining APRA, Adrian worked at ASIC assessing licence applications for complex institutions and undertaking onsite compliance reviews as part of the implementation of the Finance Services Reform initiatives and was also involved in the review and registration of managed investment schemes. He has over 21 years experience as a senior executive.

Appointed Actuary, Phoenix Health Fund and NHBA

The current Appointed Actuary to Phoenix Health Fund and NHBA, Nick has worked in health insurance since 2005, when he spent a summer at AHM. Having worked with seven different Appointed Actuaries in private health insurance through his time with EY and KPMG, Nick enjoys the people and the politics of the private health insurance industry. He is also the current editor of the Health Practice Committee’s Private Health Insurance newsletter.

Peter Taylor Peter Taylor
Chief Risk Officer, Wealth Management, Commonwealth Bank of Australia

Peter migrated to Australia in 2004, from Zimbabwe where he was CEO of a wholesale money market trading bank and funds management business. Continuing his financial services career with BankWest in Perth in a Treasury role, Peter then became CRO for HBOS Australia’s Wealth Management business before CBA acquired the business in 2008 and Peter took on the CommInsure CRO role. Appointed as the CBA Wealth Management CRO in August 2011, Peter also sits on a number of Wealth Management entity boards and committees, the Wealth Management EXCO and the CBA Risk Leadership Team.

Mike is the Chief Risk Officer at AMP Group, and has over 20 years experience in life insurance and wealth management. Mike held a number of senior finance roles in the UK, before migrating to Australia in 2000 to join AXA Asia Pacific in Melbourne, where he was Group Chief Actuary and Group Chief Risk Officer and successfully steered the AXA Asia Pacific Group through the global financial crisis.

Michael Vine Michael Vine
Director, Corporate & Government Ratings and Head of Research and Criteria Initiatives, Standard & Poor's Services

Michael is a Director within Standard & Poor's Services' Corporate & Government Ratings group and is the Head of Research and Criteria Initiatives for the Insurance Ratings team in the Asia-Pacific region, responsible for insurance sector commentary and research in the region, as well as criteria development for insurance ratings. Previously an Analytical Manager for Standards & Poor’s Pacific Insurance team, Michael has also worked in various credit and relationship-management roles in the corporate banking sector.
