Chief Risk Officer, Arch LMI

Brett is the CRO for Arch LMI, an Australian lenders mortgage insurer.  Prior to this, he had 17 years of experience as a general insurance actuarial consultant, mostly with Finity Consulting.  Before that he worked in funds management.  Brett is a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary (CERA) and is also a member of the Risk Management Faculty Advisory Board of ANZIIF.

Ash has 20 years  experience in the financial services industry, specialising in life insurance. He has a wide range of experience including risk management, capital management, financial reporting, asset liability management, product pricing and reinsurance. Prior to ClearView, Ash was the Appointed Actuary for Swiss Re Life And Health Australia and has also held other senior actuarial roles in TAL, Challenger and AMP. Ash is also a member of the LIWMPC.

Head of Group Risk and Compliance, ClearView Wealth Limited

Simone is currently the Head of Group Risk and Compliance at ClearView Wealth Limited. Her role covers risk management and group compliance of a life insurer, a superannuation fund, a Dealer Group and a wealth management business. She was previously also the Head of Capital Management at ClearView. Simone began her working career at Old Mutual in South Africa in various actuarial roles before moving to the UK and working as an International Benefit Consultant at Mercer and then a Risk Manager at AXA UK where she focused on Solvency II. Simone is a Fellow of the Australian Actuaries Institute and Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the UK as well as a member of the Actuaries Institute’s Risk Management Practice Committee.

Chief Risk Officer, Insurance & Care NSW

Insurance & Care NSW (icare) was created on 1 September 2015 to deliver the State’s insurance and care schemes. Gavin joined icare in November as their inaugural Chief Risk Officer. Gavin is part of icare’s Executive Team and he manages the Risk & Governance functions including Risk, Compliance, Audit and Legal.

Prior to joining icare, Gavin was the Chief Risk Officer at Zurich Financial Services Australia Limited.  He has also held senior actuarial positions in a number of large insurance companies. Before moving to Australia in 2008, Gavin worked at the Accident Compensation Corporation in New Zealand where his last role was Chief Actuary. He holds a Masters degree in Statistics from the University of Waikato (NZ), an MBA from Henley Management College (UK) and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (FIAA).

 Mike Thornton

Mike has over 25 years’ experience in life insurance and wealth management, largely in the UK, Asia and Australia.

He has held a wide range of senior roles, including roles as a Group Chief Risk Officer, Group Chief Actuary and Appointed Actuary.  Mike started his career with AXA in the UK, before migrating to Australia in 2000.  Mike was Group Chief Actuary and Group Chief Risk Officer at AXA Asia Pacific, Group Chief Risk Officer at AMP, and is currently in Melbourne with AIA. 

Peter Yeates

Peter has nearly 20 years’ experience, principally as an actuarial consultant, across general insurance (including serving as CRO of a Lloyd’s syndicate), health and wider fields. He has worked in New Zealand, the UK and Australia. Peter is a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary (CERA) and is also chair of the RMPC Education subcommittee and co-chair of the Cyber Insurance Working Group.

 Gloria Yu
Director, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu

Gloria is a Director at Deloitte and has been working in the General Insurance industry since 2001. She has experience in various corporate and consulting firms.. Prior to joining Deloitte, Gloria worked at Westpac/BT on the merger between Westpac and St George. She is heavily involved with the Actuaries Institute and has served on Council since 2009. Gloria is a member of the Audit & Risk Council Committee, the Public Policy Council Committee, the Leadership and Career Development Committee and the Risk Management Practice Committee. She has a strong interest in Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and has worked on developing strategic and operational plans for ERM within the actuarial profession. Gloria has also assisted with the Institute’s education program in numerous capacities and is currently convenor of the Mentoring Program Working Group.
