Elizabeth Baker
Risk Manager –The Hollard Insurance Company

Elizabeth has worked for 30 years in the financial services industry in Australia, Europe and Asia. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (FIAA), an Associate of CPA  Australia and holds a Masters of Applied Finance.

Prior to joining Hollard, she worked at EY, CommInsure and was the Appointed Actuary for CMLA.

Before returning to Australia in 2013, Elizabeth worked internationally for 15 years in Europe, Japan and the Asia Regional office in Singapore for AXA, in a range of senior Actuarial, Risk and Finance roles across a number of insurance and reinsurance businesses. She has extensive operational experience in Finance, Capital Management, Actuarial, Risk Management and Strategy.

Elizabeth is the Convenor of the Institute of Actuaries’ Risk Management Practice Committee.

Nicholas Han (Secretary)
Manager, Ernst & Young

Nicholas is a Manager in the Actuarial Services practice at EY with over 4 years’ experience in a consulting capacity. Nicholas has provided modelling, pricing and valuation support to a number of participants in the Australian Life Insurance and Wealth Management market. Nicholas is a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary (CERA) and a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries Australia (FIAA).

meera Meera Sardana 
Associate Director – Ernst & Young

Meera has 10 years of consulting experience in the Australian Life insurance and Wealth Management industries.

She has supported a number of Appointed Actuaries with financial condition investigations and reporting for life insurers, reinsurers and friendly societies.

She has led independent assessments of the Risk Management Framework and Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process for a number of life and general insurers.

She has extensive experience performing and reviewing stress and scenario testing, including developing assumptions and models for life insurers and reinsurers.

  Peter Yeates 
Director, Analytic Partners

Peter has nearly 20 years’ experience, principally as an actuarial consultant, across general insurance (including serving as CRO of a Lloyd’s syndicate), health and wider fields. He has worked in New Zealand, the UK and Australia. Peter is a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary (CERA) and is also chair of the RMPC Education subcommittee and co-chair of the Cyber Insurance Working Group. 

  Ashutosh Bhalerao
Appointed Actuary, ClearView Life Assurance Ltd

Ash has 20 years experience in the financial services industry, specialising in life insurance. He has a wide range of experience including risk management, capital management, financial reporting, asset liability management, product pricing and reinsurance. Prior to ClearView, Ash was the Appointed Actuary for Swiss Re Life And Health Australia and has also held other senior actuarial roles in TAL, Challenger and AMP. Ash is also a member of the LIWMPC. 

  Verne Baker
Director, Head of Asian Markets GI Actuarial, KPMG Actuarial

Verne has over 25 years’ experience as a consulting actuary in non-life insurance and has been the outsourced CRO for Lawcover Insurance Pty Ltd since 2015. Throughout his career he was worked on many ERM projects both in Australia and overseas. Between 2001 and 2013 he was based in Asia and led Watson Wyatt’s and Deloittes’ GI Actuarial practices across Asia.

vanessa beenders  Vanessa Beenders
Head of Public Policy & Practice Excellence, Actuaries Institute

Vanessa is the Head of Public Policy and Practice Excellence at the Institute. Her prior background spans government, financial services and education in both public and private sectors. Vanessa has worked in the Commonwealth Department of Treasury, including as an adviser in the Federal Treasurer’s office. Her experience in financial services was with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia Group and included corporate strategy, equities research and government relations. More recently, Vanessa was a primary school teacher. Vanessa has a Bachelor of Economics (Hons) and Bachelor of Education (Primary).

 
tim  Tim Gorst
Independent Consulting Actuary and ERM Educator

Tim has over 25 years of financial services experience across both banking and wealth management and currently consults independently as a senior financial services and ERM actuary. Tim also teaches Enterprise Risk Management at the Australian National University in Canberra and for the Actuaries Institute of Australia. Tim is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary 
 

Gaurav Agrawal
Senior Manager, Ernst & Young

Gaurav is a Senior Manager in the Financial Services Risk Management practice at EY. He has over 9 years’ regulatory and consulting experience with previous roles at the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) and Rice Warner Actuaries.

Gaurav has experience across the general and life insurance and wealth management industries, encompassing prudential regulation and supervision, risk and capital management, product benchmarking and tender management.

He has led reviews across the insurance sector targeting independent assessments and benchmarking of Risk Management (CPS 220) and Capital Management Frameworks (ICAAP), developed strategic, POV insight materials on regulatory and legislative changes, risk and control libraries and recovery plans.

Gaurav is a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary (CERA), Associate of the Institute of Actuaries Australia (AIAA) and Financial Risk Manager (FRM) designation holder.

 

Martin Considine
Head of Actuarial, Challenger

Martin has over 30 years experience in the Australian, Irish and Italian life insurance industries. Martin has extensive experience predominantly in the valuation and capital management areas.

He is chair of the Risk Management Education Faculty, and is 1 of the 2 Actuaries Institute representatives on the Global CERA Review Panel.

Deputy Chief Risk Officer, Asia - RGA

Camille Cuche is Deputy Chief Risk Officer, Asia at RGA Reinsurance. A Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia since 2004, Camille has over 20 years experience in the life insurance industry. Since joining RGA in 2006, she has held several pricing leadership roles with responsibility spanning multiple markets including Japan, Korea, India, Taiwan and Australia. Camille has led diverse actuarial teams across Asia Pacific.

Prior to RGA, Camille has actuarial consulting experience with Deloitte and Milliman as well as investment banking experience at Credit Suisse.

 

Paul Caputo
Head of Risk Consulting and Technology Australia and New Zealand, Willis Towers Watson

A financial services executive with over 30 years experience with expertise in risk, finance, and leading and transforming teams. A specialist in life insurance, general insurance and mortgage insurance within Australia and Asia and is passionate about driving risk management as a key competitive proposition within organisations.

A broad range of professional experience which includes heading up the Australian risk and actuarial consulting business for Willis Towers Watson, Chief Risk Officer and Chief Executive for a large insurer, CFO and establishing a start-up life company in Thailand. This experience provides a unique balance of strong commercial acumen together with a deep understanding of building and driving effective risk management within organisations.

A proven ability to manage and influence a diverse range of stakeholders including senior management, regulators and government bodies, rating agencies and company boards.

 

Xiao Xu
Lecturer, UNSW

Xiao is a Lecturer in the School of Risk and Actuarial Studies and the Academic Mentor for the Actuarial Society of UNSW. Her research interests centre around variable annuities, retirement planning and artificial intelligence (AI) deep learning. Xiao lectures various actuarial and risk management courses in UNSW.

Before joining UNSW, Xiao had three years of industry work experience in life insurance, consulting business and VC entrepreneurship. Xiao holds several professional qualifications: Chartered Financial Analyst, Chartered Accountant - Australia, Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia, Certified Public Accountant – USA, Financial Risk Manager (2016), Fellow of Society of Actuaries and Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst.
