RMPC Education

Mission Statement

To facilitate and drive thinking, discussion and activity around the provision of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) education to actuarial students as part of the Actuary qualification process.

To achieve this, the Education Faculty’s objectives are to:

  • Support wider CPD offerings in ERM to members by collaborating with other practice areas;  
  • Work with and support a number of parties in this area, including the Institute Secretariat, the Institute Council and other committees, global actuarial bodies (e.g. the CERA treaty board) and local universities;
  • Support the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) subject within the Actuaries Institute Fellowship Program; and
  • Approve the detailed learning objectives that sit under the top-level learning objectives.

Faculty Head - Jason Yu
Vice President, Senior Risk Manager - A&NZ, Swiss Re

Jason is currently a Senior Risk Manager at Swiss Re, guiding and supporting the effective operation of business strategy, local risk management framework, capital, sustainability and risk mindsets of the A&NZ business. 

Jason is a business leader and a qualified actuary with more than 10 years of experience and knowledge in Pricing, Data Analytics and Risk Management. A professional and pragmatic individual with a proven track record to problem solving and simplifying the complex. With a focus to empower decision making through data driven insights. A well-regarded leader, mentor and strategic thinker. 

Jason is currently the chair of the Risk Management Education Faculty and a member of the Risk Management Practice Committee.

Daniel_Cheng

SME - Daniel Cheng
Group Portfolio Management Actuary, TAL

Daniel is a Portfolio Management Actuary from TAL, with a great passion for enterprise risk management. During his previous role in Deloitte, Daniel was an actuarial consultant with experience in designing and maintaining Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), as well as managing financial and non-financial risk for banking, insurance and superannuation clients. 

Daniel is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (FIAA), holds the designation of Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuaries (CERA) and the certificate of Financial Risk Manager (GARP). He is a current member of the Actuaries Institute, supporting the Risk Management Practice Committee, Risk Management Faculty, Retirement Strategy Working Group and Disability Insurance Taskforce Working Group.

Martin_Considine

RMPC Representative - Martin Considine
Appointed Actuary, Challenger Life Company Limited

Martin has over 30 years experience in the Australian, Irish and Italian life insurance industries predominantly in the valuation and capital management areas.
Martin has been a member of the education sub-committee for ERM since 2009 and been a member of the RMPC since 2019.

He is one of two representatives of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia on the Global CERA Review Panel and is currently the independent examiner for the ERM examination.
Shivani

SME - Shivani Padayachy

Shivani is a Senior Financial Risk Manager with over 15 years’ of experience. She has worked in the field of Life Insurance and Risk Management in South Africa and other African markets and is now based in Australia. Shivani is passionate about enterprise risk management and is currently studying towards an MBA specialising in this field. She hopes to use her skillset to promote the actuarial profession in less traditional areas. Shivani is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in Australia and the Actuarial Society of South Africa. 

Zachary-Tirrell
Chief Examiner - Zachary Tirrell

Zachary is a member of the Institute’s Actuarial Education team. He is a casual senior consultant at Quantium Health and a scholarship-holding candidate at the Macquarie University Centre for the Health Economy, with research focusing on risk. Zachary has experience in a diverse range of industries including healthcare, financial services and data analytics. He is a member of the Health Practice Committee and the health editor for Actuaries Digital. 

Srikar_Velivela

SME - Srikar Velivela
Executive Manager – Finance, Performance & Advice, Suncorp Group

Srikar is an Executive Manager of Finance, Performance & Advice at Suncorp Group.

He is an experienced leader with roles spanning Insurance, Reinsurance, Banking & Wealth sectors in Finance, Capital, Risk Management, Investments, and Actuarial practice areas. With over 10 years of industry experience, he is well-versed in building effective professional relationships with key stakeholders and has proven capability as a trusted advisor to senior management and the Board.

Srikar is the lead on General Insurance Risks for the RMPC. He has also proactively contributed to the development of the ERM subject as part of the Risk Management Education Committee (RMEC) and is driven to foster continuous learning and development opportunities for his peers in the profession.

Harry_Liu

Secretary - Harry Liu

Harry specialises in pricing for personal line products and has experience in commercial line pricing and long tail reserving. He was a Tutor for actuarial courses at UNSW prior to commencing work full time. Harry completed his Bachelor of Actuarial Studies (Co-op) from UNSW in 2017 and achieved FIAA and CERA qualifications in 2020.  

Mike_Callan

Mike Callan
Executive General Manager – Education, Actuaries Institute

Mike has over 30 years’ experience in life insurance, wealth management, pensions and educating actuaries. Whilst in Europe, he led a team of over 60 actuaries covering product design, reserving, embedded value profit reporting and built up a risk management function for a large, multi-national insurer.  Mike set up the Part II program at Monash university and is now heading the Actuaries Institute’s development and delivery of the new education program.
