Paul Driessen – Principal, Taylor Fry (Convenor of the IDSS2017 Organising Committee)

Paul Driessen is a Principal at Taylor Fry with over 25 years’ experience in corporate and consulting roles in the insurance industry. Paul leads Taylor Fry’s Injury Schemes practice, and specialises in advice on workers’ compensation, motor accident insurance and catastrophic injury schemes to scheme regulators and government. Paul dislikes writing about himself in the third person.

Vivian Tse – Director, EY

Vivian is a Director at EY and has 15 years of general insurance consulting experience across Australia and UK.  She is passionate about making a positive contribution to the community which aligns strongly with her focus on personal injury schemes, regulators and government insurers.  


Julie Evans – Value Delivery Lead, WorkSafe Victoria

Julie Evans has been at WorkSafe for almost ten years, following many more years than that as an actuarial consultant both in Australia and abroad. She is the Value Delivery Lead for the Strategy 2030 Transformation program, having previously worked in the Scheme Performance division.

Julie has long been fascinated by the dynamics of injury compensation schemes, and her involvement in the development and delivery of WorkSafe's long term strategy provides the opportunity to help shape and deliver a future in which these dynamics are leveraged to produce greater financial, economic and social value for all Victorians.

Samantha Fuller – General Manager, Employers Mutual Limited

In 2000 Sam started out as a graduate in PwC’s actuarial department in Sydney. Over the subsequent 9 years she gained her fellowship, worked her way through the ranks to director and developed a great deal of actuarial nous from some of the best in the business. In late 2009, Sam joined Taylor Fry to further hone her skills and apply her practical thinking in a new environment with some leading edge technical actuaries.

After 15 years of consulting experience Sam made the move to EML to learn about the humanistic side of claims and how analytics and practical business management could drive better outcomes from  the customer perspective. Her success in leading the Actuarial Services Department for the last 3 years has seen Sam recently appointed as General Manager of the  EML Claims Optimisation Group.

Sam’s energy and experience is now focussed on driving performance and efficiency across the EML business units Australia wide.

Gillian Harrex – Principal, Finity

Gillian Harrex is a Principal and Director at Finity Consulting and has more than 20 years consulting experience.  Gillian is passionate about making a difference in working with injury and disability schemes around the country. 


Raewin Davies – Director, PwC

Raewin is a Director at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and has over 25 years’ experience working with accident compensation schemes, private health insurers,  aged care providers, and general insurance companies. Raewin is passionate about working on the problems that matter to society, and enjoys collaborating with clients to develop sustainable solutions. 

David Gifford – Chief Strategy Officer, Transport Accident Commission

David joined the TAC in 2008 and was appointed to the role of Chief Strategy Officer in January 2016. Previously he was the Executive Manager of Business Intelligence and the Senior Manager of Actuarial Services, where he led the actuarial, reporting, analytics and research functions.

Prior to the TAC David worked in actuarial consulting for fifteen years. He was a Director in PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Actuarial practice, where he provided a range of actuarial and other consulting advice to many of Australia and New Zealand’s social insurers and general insurers.

David and his team led the development of the TAC 2020 Strategy, bringing to life the TAC’s ambitious goal to lead the world in social insurance. They continue to set the strategic direction for the TAC, enabling it to reduce the impact of road trauma in Victoria and to help TAC clients get their lives back on track.

David has a Bachelor of Economics (Actuarial Studies) from Macquarie University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.


Dai Liu – Senior Actuary, Actuarial Services, icare

Dai is a qualified actuary with over 9 years of experience in the general insurance industry. He has predominately worked in reserving for CTP and workers compensation. Dai also has experience in various other insurance lines of business as well as experience in leading and delivering the actuarial side of major projects with finance and IT. Prior to joining icare, he has worked as Reserving Actuary at Zurich Australia and Manager at KPMG. Dai is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.
